Role summary
The Infant Feeding Public Health Support Worker provides advice, support, and delivers public health interventions and health promotion for parents, carers, children, and young people. This role involves working within the community infant feeding team, offering support via telephone, home visits, and digital platforms. The post holder will also ensure effective administration within the service and contribute to promoting a positive breastfeeding culture across Bolton.
Key responsibilities
- Practice within baby friendly standards to ensure parents have information for informed feeding choices.
- Work within the infant feeding team to offer evidence-based information and support around infant feeding.
- Support families experiencing feeding difficulties in the early postnatal weeks and months.
- Make initial contact with new parents to offer early interventions and support.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality care to children, young people, and families.
- Travel across the borough to support service delivery.
Essential criteria
- NVQ level 3 or evidence of continued professional development in a public health field acquired through training and work based experience.
- Experience of working with children, young people and families.
- Experience of supporting families with infant feeding.
- Experience of managing resources
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills/ability to communicate with a diverse range of individuals.
- Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise and work to deadlines.
- Ability to travel with ease across the borough to deliver the service
- Knowledge of the importance of breastfeeding and its impact on health.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of study related to breast-feeding and/or infant feeding.
- Experience of working in the local community.
- Experience of carrying out infant feeding assessments.
- Ability to have sensitive discussions around infant feeding with women and their families
- Knowledge of the UNICEF baby friendly standards and awareness of the importance of the delivery within the service.
