Role summary
This permanent, full-time role is for an Advanced Practitioner Speech & Language Therapist in North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, based in Bentilee. The successful candidate will provide assessment and treatment for adults with communication and/or swallowing difficulties in community settings, including those with Learning Disabilities, severe mental health needs, and Huntington's Disease. Essential criteria
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
- Registration with HCPC and RCSLT
- Post Graduate RCSLT accredited dysphagia course or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate study to master's level in relevant area that will support the delivery of the service
- Member of relevant Clinical Excellence Network
- Completion of an Advanced Dysphagia course or equivalent experience
- Evidence of expert/advanced clinical knowledge relevant to the post
- To have advanced professional and clinical knowledge of communication disorders and dysphagia, with particular emphasis on the specific clinical areas outline in the job purpose
- Supporting service users, families and carers in dealing with the impact of communication / eating and drinking difficulties
- Proficient IT skills to participate in electronic patient noting systems in the Trust
- Experience of caseload prioritisation, ability to manage a clinical caseload safely and to delegate to other members of the team appropriately
- Experience of multidisciplinary team working
- Supervision of clinical colleagues
- Experience of student training
- Experience of leading clinical audit in specialism
- Experience of negotiation and conflict management in clinical situations

MPFT INTERNAL STAFF ONLY
The Speech & Language Therapy Service in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent provides assessment and treatment for adults with communication and/or swallowing difficulties in community settings, including patients' own homes. We offer dysphagia, communication, and voice assessment and intervention, supported by strong leadership and compassionate management.
We are excited to offer a permanent opportunity for a Speech & Language Therapist Advanced Practitioner. This full-time role will allow you to make a real difference across the North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent area, with a base in Bentilee. You will to work with our colleagues in North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust with a specific caseload, contribute to service development and take a leading role in shaping the delivery of speech and language therapy within the community.
The caseload which this role supports is a mixture of people with Learning Disability in the community, people with severe mental health needs in a specialist hospital setting and people with Huntington's Disease. The clinical work is diverse and interesting with MDT support in place.
