Role summary
This role involves providing high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill and high-dependency children and young people in a Paediatric HDU/Level 2 Critical Care environment. The post holder will act as an experienced clinical practitioner, offering effective leadership and supervision to the nursing team, ensuring safe and child- and family-centred care. They will also serve as a role model for junior staff and support the ward leadership in maintaining high standards of practice and service delivery. The role requires recognising and responding to deteriorating children, prioritising workload, coordinating the clinical area, and escalating concerns appropriately. After training, the successful applicant will hold the Paediatric bleep, supporting the unit and attending medical emergencies.
Essential criteria
- oFirst level degree oEvidence of continuous professional development oTeaching and Assessing Qualification or willingness to undertake oCurrent NMC Professional registration RSCN/RN Child oStudy at level 6 (degree/ diploma) oHDU Qualification oCompletion on European Advanced Life Support (EPALS) training
Desirable criteria
- oCPI trained or willingness to undertake
- oProfessional post registration clinical experience in a high dependency setting. oAbility to successfully manage people and change oAppropriate experience in management of reported incidents including investigation using Datix or similar system oExperience of conflict management and complaints
- oExperience in HR and Management Related Issues oResource Management oExperience in maintaining safe staffing and management of sickness/absence.
- oA knowledgeable clinician with the ability to apply evidence based practice oA sound knowledge of professional policies and procedures oKnowledge of clinical governance & a commitment to clinical supervision and staff development
- oA good understanding of current issues relating to the NHS. oExperience in Policy/Service Development
- oIT skills oPatient focused oExcellent communication skills oAble to prioritise and meet deadlines effectively oGood management of own and others time oAble to use initiative and make decisions oAnalyses problems and implements effective and appropriate solutions

Job summary
