Role summary
This is an exciting permanent opportunity for a Band 5 Assistant Psychologist to work 22.5 hours per week in an adult acute inpatient setting at Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen. The role involves delivering low-level psychological interventions, assisting with assessments, and contributing to care plans under the supervision of a Principal Clinical Psychologist. The successful applicant will join a supportive Adult Mental Health Psychology department and work within a multidisciplinary team. Innovation, commitment, and enthusiasm for improving psychological needs are essential.
Essential criteria
- Minimum of an Upper Second Class Honours (2:1) Degree in Psychology with graduate basis for registration with the British Psychological Society or equivalent Psychology conversion degree.
Desirable criteria
- Further postgraduate training in a relevant area
- Experience working with people with mental health difficulties and/or individuals experiencing significant emotional distress
- Experience in more than one area of work, e.g., Adult Mental Health, Older People's Mental Health, Child and Adolescent Mental Health
- Experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist
- Experience in an NHS setting
- Experience in delivering low intensity psychological interventions
- Experience in delivering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or other evidence-based interventions
- Language Skills
- Welsh Speaker (Level 1)

Job summary
The Psychology Adult Mental Health Service is very pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Assistant Psychologist position to work in an adult acute inpatient setting, on a permanent basis. The post is based on Morlais Ward, in Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen and is 0.6 wte (22.5 hours per week).
The successful applicant would be working as part of a welcoming Adult Mental Health Psychology department, which provides professional support and encourages future career development. The post-holder will be supervised by a Principal Clinical Psychologist and work alongside other Assistant Psychologists based across the three counties. The post-holder will need to be able to demonstrate innovation, commitment and enthusiasm for improving psychological needs of people with mental health conditions. They must be able to work both independently and as a member of a team to support the existing service.
The position is embedded within a multidisciplinary team, comprising of various healthcare professionals and the role includes opportunities to joint work alongside these professionals.
Applicants must have a recognised upper second-class honours degree in Psychology and have the Graduate Basis for Registration with the British Psychological Society (BPS)
