Role summary

This is an opportunity for an experienced maternity support worker or healthcare assistant to extend their skills within the maternity unit. Under the direction of a Registered Midwife, the role involves working with the multi-disciplinary team to provide high standards of care for women and families. Duties include undertaking personal care, assisting with care plans, and developing clinical skills. The position requires working 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, and weekends.

Essential criteria

  • Experience working in maternity department
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a patient care/health related role
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a patient care/health related role
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent
  • Care Certificate (equivalent to level 1)
  • Literacy and numeracy functional skills level 2 or equivalent
  • Demonstrable clinical skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Able to work within a team
  • Experience of supporting junior staff and learners
  • Basic IT skills
  • Able to accept direction and guidance
  • Aware of own limitations
  • Flexible in working hours
  • Able to prioritise own workload and manage time effectively
  • Flexible, adaptable and responsive to change
  • Reliable and professional
  • Ability to cope in stressful and challenging situations
  • Inclusive and non-judgmental
  • Punctual, motivated and committed

Maternity Support Worker

Job summary

This is an opportunity for an experienced maternity support worker or health care assistant to extend their skill within the maternity Unit.

Under the direction of the Registered Midwife, the Maternity support worker will work with all members of the multi disciplinary team to contribute to the provision of the highest standards of care delivery in undertaking personal care duties for women and families on the Maternity unit.

Hours will be 12 hour shifts including days, nights and weekends.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist in the development, implementation. and assessment of care plans
  • Work within standard operating procedures as defined within each area.
  • To work under direction of the senior midwife who will be available for reference.
  • Undertake and develop a specified range of clinical skills appropriate to the speciality with appropriate training to be able to at times use own initiative delivering patient care, with supervision available.
