Role summary

Key responsibilities
- To deliver a high standard of nursing care.
- To communicate with families and significant others, involving them in the planning and delivery of care.
- To manage clinical emergencies as required.
- To use medical equipment safely and competently and to supervise others in its use.
- To record and interpret vital signs, and report any deterioration.
- To deal with enquiries/ complaints from patients and visitors in a courteous, timely manner.
Essential criteria
- NMC registered Nurse.
- Evidence of professional development.
- The ability to effectively function as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- The ability to assess patients; develop, implement and evaluate a plan of care.
- The ability to communicate effectively.
- The ability to effectively prioritise own workload.
- The ability to safely administer medicines in accordance with NMC Guidelines for the administration of medicines (2002).
- The ability to keep accurate records in accordance with NMC Guidelines for records and record keeping (2002).
- Experience of working within a hospital setting (this can be gained through student placement).
- Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality issues.
- NMC Code of Conduct.

- Able to work flexibly to meet service needs.
