Role summary

This role is for a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) Band 5 at Nightingale House, a 13-bedded community rehabilitation unit in Westbourne, Bournemouth. The unit supports individuals with chronic and disabling mental health problems, helping them recover and gain skills for independent living. The Staff Nurse will provide high-quality nursing care, facilitate recovery, and develop therapeutic relationships to help patients transition back into the community. This position requires a motivated professional passionate about developing outstanding mental health services.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist the Ward Manager in providing high quality nursing care and treatment to patients.
  • Work with patients to help them acquire or regain skills and confidence for community living.
  • Develop therapeutic relationships and engage individuals in collaborative partnership working to achieve agreed goals.
  • Contribute to providing a daily structure and effective clinical interventions, balancing therapeutic needs with support and security.
  • Liaise closely with family, carers, community teams, GPs, and other professionals involved in patient care.

Essential criteria

  • Must be a registered mental health nurse,
  • Must have professional UK registration ie NMC
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent level of highly developed specialist knowledge and experience
  • Experience of Teaching and Assessing In Clinical Practice
  • Ability to communicate effectively at different levels of an organisation in both verbal and written form, for example with staff, patients, visitors or external organisations in the exchange of very highly complex, sensitive or contentious information, which will require the use of negotiating and/or persuasive skills.
  • Evidence of skills in diplomacy, negotiation and influencing
  • Ability to evaluate care leading to improvement in quality standards an service improvement
  • Inquisitive and eager to learn.
  • Evidence of seeking ways to improve self and others.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and empathy for self, colleagues, and service users
  • Experience of working within the care sector, or demonstrate transferable experience
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge in clinical assessment, treatment and care for people's mental health
  • Demonstrable knowledge of legislation relevant to area of practice
  • A robust understanding of the function of mental health rehabilitation
  • Evidence of proactive involvement in supervision.
  • Evidence of recent professional development in an up to date portfolio

  • Previous experience of working within the NHS

We currently looking for a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) band 5 for our Rehabilitation Unit in Westbourne, Bournemouth.

Nightingale House is a 13 bedded, mixed gender community rehab unit set on the Alumhurst Rd site within walking distance to both Westbourne shops and to the beach. The unit supports people who have chronic and disabling mental health problems that may be treatment resistant, often providing a stepping stone for those who have previously spent long periods in hospital.

Staff work hard to facilitate further recovery, that can include supporting self-medication, gaining skills for more independent living such as cooking, shopping, budgeting and supporting individuals to access community activities (leisure and vocational).

This role requires a registered professional who is motivated, driven and passionate about developing an outstanding service for the individuals we serve.
