Role summary

This role is for a conscientious and motivated speech therapist to join the Cardiff Flying Start Speech and Language Team within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. The post holder will support families at Universal and Targeted levels, focusing on the prevention and early identification of Speech, Language, and Communication Needs in children aged 0-4 years. Responsibilities include empowering parents, training staff, and contributing to service development. The role also involves supervising Band 5 SLTs and Band 4 Technical Instructors, and providing student placements.

Key responsibilities

  • Facilitate and empower parents and carers to promote children's communication development.
  • Advise and/or train parents, carers, Flying Start workers, and childcare staff on facilitating and enhancing communication development.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the Flying Start Speech and Language service.
  • Offer supervision to Band 5 SLT's and Band 4 Speech and Language Technical Instructors.
  • Provide placements to Speech and Language Therapy Students.

Essential criteria

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Registered member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
  • Registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council
  • Experience of a specific preschool caseload
  • Experience of collaborative working within multi-agency and multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience of providing training to other professionals
  • Experience of providing clinical placements for SLT students
  • Experience of training others in how to identify and support children with speech language and communication difficulties
  • Knowledge of screening programmes e.g. WellComm

Job summary

An exciting opportunity exists for a conscientious, motivated and innovative speech therapist to work within the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Flying Start service. We require enthusiastic and positive practitioners who are pro-active and have a 'can do approach'.

The post holder will be working as part of a dynamic team of Speech and Language practitioners, within Cardiff Flying Start Speech and Language Team .
