Role summary
This role involves joining an innovative specialist nursing team within the Continence Service, working closely with urologists at Stepping Hill. The post holder will conduct high-level clinical assessments and reviews for patients in community clinics and their homes. They will implement clinical care plans and demonstrate a strong understanding of bladder and bowel conditions. The role requires monitoring and improving care standards through audit and evidence-based practice.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse on NMC Register
- Educated to degree level (level 6)
- Relevant courses appropriate to clinical area.
- Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of post registration education in Continence/Bladder/Bowel/ Similar Speciality - either working towards or prepared to undertake within 6 months of commencing in post
- Evidence of Masters level study
- Teaching and Assessing Certificate/Mentorship.
- Knowledge of bladder and bowel terminology, pathways and Treatments
- Demonstrate an awareness of national guidelines in relation to management of continence
- Significant post-registration experience within the relevant specialty.
- Experience of multi-professional working.
- Experience of managing change.
- Experience of audit and research.
- Leadership and management experience.
- Skills & Abilities
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of an effective MDT.
- Ability to plan, organise, prioritise and delegate effectively and support staff.
- Exemplar effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to support people with life changing news
- Ability to interpret and utilise data to improve practice.
- Ability to support, encourage and motivate others.
- Computer literacy skills.
- Ability to deal with complex and difficult emotional situations.
- Positive attitude.

Job summary
The successful candidate will join the innovative specialist nurses within a highly motivated Continence Service. They will also be working closely with urologists from the specialist centre at Stepping Hill, providing support for patients in primary and secondary care.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Continence Specialist Nurse will be to offer high level clinical assessments and reviews to patients in a nurse-led community clinic and in their own home, implementing a clinical care plan to support the patient in their home environment.
The post holder will demonstrate a good level of understanding of bladder and bowel conditions, and associated disorders, and be able to translate that into practice.
