Role summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and motivated Band 6 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Specialist Nurse to join a supportive renal team. The role involves managing a caseload of patients, providing holistic assessment, care planning, and ongoing monitoring. You will run nurse-led clinics, provide kidney replacement therapy education, and support anaemia management. This position requires autonomy, clinical judgment, and the ability to build therapeutic relationships with patients and families. You will also contribute to service development and innovation within the expanding conservative kidney management service.

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC Register
  • Proof of continuous update in specialist areas
  • Willingness to develop IT and computer skills relevant to the role
  • To have completed Mentor Preparation Programme or demonstrate mentorship experience

Desirable criteria

  • Attendance at annual conferences or study days/courses specific to specialty
  • Significant post-registration experience including some in a position relevant to the speciality
  • Skills, abilities and knowledge
  • Able to perform clinical skills relevant to the speciality
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good standards of documentation and record keeping
  • Ability to lead, motivate and to encourage others in a team
  • Ability to work without supervision and on own initiative
  • Ability to provide high quality patient centred care
  • Flexible approach to work schedule
  • Ability to drive or travel as required. (adjustments can be made for candidates with a disability)
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit/peer review
  • Attitude, aptitude

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and motivated Band 6 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Specialist Nurse to join our friendly, supportive and forward-thinking renal team.

We are looking for an experienced renal nurse with excellent communication skills, a compassionate approach and a genuine interest in long-term condition management, patient education and service development. You will work within a multidisciplinary team supporting patients with advanced kidney disease, helping them understand their condition, manage symptoms and make informed decisions about their treatment and future care.

You will manage your own caseload and develop specialist expertise in kidney replacement therapy education, anaemia management, hepatitis B vaccination clinics and nurse-led patient support. This is a role that requires autonomy, clinical judgement and the ability to build meaningful therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
