Role summary
This is an exciting full-time opportunity for a Specialist Mental Health Law Practitioner in Norfolk, working alongside a Suffolk counterpart. The role involves being an expert in mental health legislation, providing hands-on support to clinical staff, and offering specialist advice to Associate Hospital Managers. The successful candidate will help ensure the Trust meets its statutory obligations and adapts to changes in the Mental Health Act. The role requires in-depth knowledge of MHA, MCA, and DoLS, with experience in complex health or social care settings.
Key responsibilities
- Report to and deputise for the Deputy Head of Mental Health Law for Norfolk.
- Support senior leadership in the Mental Health Law Team.
- Focus on managing Mental Health Law Administration related to clinical practice.
- Assist with strategic leadership on mental health law matters within the Trust.
- Provide cover for the Suffolk counterpart to ensure consistency and collaborate on joint projects.
Essential criteria
- First degree in Nursing or Health/Social Care related profession or equivalent experience
- Masters level or equivalent relevant experience or PG Certificate Mental Health Law plus relevant experience
- Competence and experience in clinical or other record systems
- Analytic skills including ability to analyse information from varied sources and draw conclusions
- Ability to manage competing priorities and delivery to tight deadlines
- Detailed knowledge of Mental Health Act 1983 and Mental Capacity Act 2005 and other relevant mental health law
- To have good knowledge and understanding of confidential information management including principles of safe information sharing
- Ability to travel to all Trust locations within Norfolk and Suffolk
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to take an organsation wide perspective

- Recognised leadership/management qualification
- Masters level or equivalent experience

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Specialist Mental Health Law Practitioner for Norfolk.
Working alongside their counterpart in Suffolk, the postholder will be an expert in all aspect of mental health legislation.
The post holder will work across NSFT sites in Norfolk, in order to provide hands on support to clinical staff and provide specialist advice to the Associate Hospital Managers.
The successful applicants will play an important part in helping to ensure NSFT meets its statutory obligations and in delivering on the forthcoming changes to the MHA.
