Role summary
This role is for a dynamic, enthusiastic NMC/HCPC registered practitioner to work in the scrub role within the operating department. The successful candidate will provide skilled scrub assistance in specialist areas, ensuring high standards of perioperative care and adherence to policies. They will also support and teach other team members, and lead a theatre team with excellent communication skills. Experience is preferred, but newly qualified practitioners are considered.
Essential criteria
- First level RGN/ODP
- Degree/Diploma ODP or equivalent level training
- NMC/HCPC Registration
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Minimum of 12 months practical perioperative or other relevant experience - New graduates may be considered depending on the nature of the vacancy
- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients in the operating room/ anaesthetic room/ recovery
- Demonstrates knowledge of evidence based practices
- Able to effectively plan and delegate duties
- Able to manage personal time and that of others effectively
- Demonstrates a good understanding and knowledge of basic theatre/nursing care
- Demonstrates a good understanding of the role responsibility and professional accountability
- Articulate and able to communicate effectively
- Is committed to and demonstrates ability to teach successfully
- Basic IT Skills
- Demonstrates understanding of clinical audit and clinical effectiveness
- Demonstrates understanding of resource management
- Able to work as an effective team member

- Awareness of COSHH regulations
- Able to participate in on-calls/standby/weekend shifts to cover 24hour service

Main duties of the job
A Registered Practitioner who will support the perioperative team by providing skilled scrub assistance in one or more of our specialist areas.
An ability to apply theory to practice to provide a high standard of perioperative care to all patients, ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to.
Willing to support and teach other members of the operating team.
Be able to lead a team in an operating theatre utilising excellent communication skills to ensure efficiency
