Role summary
This Healthcare Assistant role is on Ward 8b, a mixed ward with palliative care, general medicine, and haematology specialities, caring for 28-30 acutely unwell patients. Staff will assist registered nurses in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, providing support to patients and families. Duties include assisting with daily living activities, nutrition, and skin integrity. Shifts will cover a 7-day period, including days, nights, and weekends.
Key responsibilities
- Participate fully in the delivery of planned nursing care at the direction of the Registered Nurse.
- Use advanced clinical skills such as venepuncture, catheterisation, aseptic technique, wound care, peg feeds, and syringe driver monitoring following competency assessment.
- Participate in the ongoing assessment of patients' care needs.
- Assist the RGN in the evaluation of care and maintain accurate patient charts.
- Involve patients and carers/relatives in the delivery of care.
- Provide reassurance and support to patients and carers/families.
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates a willingness & capability to undertake NVQ level 3
- Demonstrable experience in hospital setting working at NVQ level 2
- Reputation for high standard of patient care
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues in the Healthcare setting
- Basic Computer Skills
- Supportive of colleagues and patients
