Role summary
This role is for a Sister/Charge Nurse on Oakdale Ward, a 30-bedded unit caring for patients with endocrine, general medicine oncology, and haematological conditions. The successful candidate will support junior and senior colleagues, provide leadership, manage shifts, and ensure high-quality patient care. They will also supervise and teach staff, acting as a clinical role model. This position requires working independently and as part of a team, with patient experience at the forefront of care delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Support and work with junior and senior colleagues to provide the best quality safest care on the ward.
- Carry out leadership tasks such as return to work interviews, sickness monitoring, new starter paperwork and shift management.
- Take charge of the clinical area, dealing with & escalating any concerns with regards to staff or patient safety.
- Take responsibility for the assessments of the care needs; the development, implementation and evaluation of care to ensure the highest possible standards of care are received by patients.
- Supervise and teach other nursing and non-nursing staff, acting as an excellent clinical role model and team leader.
- Line manage a team of health care professionals and deputise in the absence of the Ward Manager.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC Register.
- Experience working as a senior staff nurse
- Appropriate clinical experience in acute medical nursing
- Supervisory experience
Desirable criteria
- Diploma/Degree in Nursing or related field.
- Teaching qualification ENB 998 or equivalent
- Foundation management/leadership training
