Role summary
This Staff Nurse role involves delivering high-quality clinical care within the Integrated Healthcare Service for a prison, covering acute and primary care, long-term conditions, and health promotion. You will exercise a high degree of autonomy, make complex clinical judgments, and provide robust expert clinical skills based on evidence-based nursing practice. The role includes running daily clinics, medication administration, and providing emergency response to incidents on site.
Essential criteria
- Professional NMC Qualification - Registered Nurse
- Professional, clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree level or equivalent.
- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information
- Working knowledge of current issues/agendas facing healthcare in chosen area of specialism
- Experience of setting, monitoring and evaluating standards of care.
- Skills/Abilities/Knowledge
- Ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and non- verbal communication) with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to present ideas with clarity in a persuasive and influential style.
- Ability to work effectively and autonomously
- Ability to lead and empower people to make decisions and plan ahead.
- Effort and Enviroment
- Daily use of physical health equipment, if required.
- Patient-facing role, which may expose the practitioner to distressing, emotional conditions
- Occasional exposure to highly distressing or highly emotional circumstances
- Ability to manage complex and challenging behaviour
- Ability to work in a challenging and changing environment
- Manual handling

Job summary
Our Staff Nurses have a very varied role where no two days are the same.
As a staff nurse, you will be required to exercise a high degree of personal and professional autonomy and have the ability to plan and reach complex and critical judgements. You will be delivering high quality clinical care within the Integrated Healthcare Service for the prison, which will include acute & primary care, long term conditions management, enhanced assessment and diagnostic intervention services and health promotion activities. You will be required to demonstrate and provide robust expert clinical skills with a sound understanding of evidence-based nursing practice to provide a pro-active approach to ensure quality & outcome driven practice on a day-to-day basis.
Our staff nurses operates in 3 areas:
- Primary Care
- Medication Administration
- Emergency Response
You will run daily clinics which include urgent care same day matters to triage and routine primary care such as long term condition management, imms & vacs, wound care, health screening and promotion & care planning. Alongside medication administration.
Our staff nurses also provide emergency response to any incidents on site at the prison, this includes on the wings, in healthcare & communal areas.
