Role summary
This role provides comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the Occupational Health team, ensuring smooth operation of the service. It involves handling highly confidential personal health records, medical reports, and correspondence. The post holder will manage diaries, type reports (including audio typing), respond to enquiries, and undertake reception duties. The position requires a professional attitude and effective communication skills.
Essential criteria
- GCSE Grades A- C English Language and Mathematics or equivalent qualification
- Computer literate and conversant with IT systems and packages
Desirable criteria
- Medical Terminology
- RSA II or equivalent word processing/typing qualifications
- ECDL or equivalent standard achieved through experience
- Audio typing experience
- Extensive experience in medical secretarial role
- Diary Management using computer database
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Recent work experience within an NHS setting
- Experience of working in a busy pressurised customer focused environment
- Experience of Microsoft Office Suite and other database programmes, preferably electronic appointment systems
- Team player- but also able to work on own initiative.
- Ability to prioritise workload
- Good organisations skills
- To be able to work with frequent interruptions in a busy environment
- Adaptable and flexible to handle multiple tasks and priorities
- Excellent keyboard skills
- Experience of working on reception
- Microsoft Office packages
- Awareness of 'Data Protection Act'
- Understanding of the Confidentiality Code and Conduct.
- Knowledge of general office systems and protocols in a patient or customer focused environment
- Knowledge of general office systems and protocols in a customer related environment
- Knowledge pf NHS culture and environment
- Good working knowledge of an acute trust

Job summary
The Medical Secretary/Administrative Assistant provides comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the Occupational Health team to ensure that administrative aspects of the service run smoothly. In addition to Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh NHS Foundation Trust the Occupational Health service also provides services to a number of other external organisations. The nature of work is very diverse and highly confidential and can be physically demanding.
This position is based at: Occupational Health Wigan Investment Centre, Waterside Drive, Wigan, WN3 5BA.
Note: 2 x positions available.
1 x 37.5 hours per week - Permanent position
1 x 37.5 hours per week fixed term position (please note this position is currently pending authorisation).
