Role summary
This role is for a skilled and experienced Surgical Respiratory Physiotherapist to join the Respiratory Physiotherapy Team at Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust. The post involves providing highly specialist physiotherapy services to surgical patients, including assessments, treatment, and goal setting. You will develop physiotherapy pathways, research innovative working methods, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient care and flow. The role offers opportunities for service development and education, supported by Therapy Leads and a consultant network.
Essential criteria
- Degree in Physiotherapy
- HCPC registered
- Evidence of further formal study
Desirable criteria
- Membership of the CSP
- Membership of appropriate clinical interest groups
- Comprehensive experience in an acute hospital setting, including a range of post qualification rotations at Band 5 and Band 6 level
- Ability to demonstrate highly developed leadership skills
- Highly developed skills in managing staff, including managing challenging behaviours
- Highly developed communication and presentation skills
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
- experience of on call and out of hours working
- practical and intellectual skills
- Specialist level assessment skills
- Respect for other professionals within the team
- Computer literate
- Evidence of clinical audit/research activity

1 We are looking for a skilled and experienced Surgical Respiratory Physiotherapist to join our friendly, busy Respiratory Physiotherapy Team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust.
There is plenty of opportunity for service development within the role and a strong focus on education .
This post is fully supported by the Therapy Leads and other clinical leads. You will work alongside a skilled MDT team and a very supportive consultant network.
We are looking for a team leader who can provide decisive and effective Physiotherapy input. Someone who is motivated to develop the surgical service, whilst delivering effective, up-to-date evidence-based treatment.
Main duties of the job
To provide a highly specialist Physiotherapy service to patients in the establishment of a surgical service at Royal Cornwall Hospital.
To provide Specialist assessments, treatment and goal setting with patients pre surgical interventions with complex presentations and/or co-morbidities to optimise patients to help patient flow.
To develop the Physiotherapy pathway service provision for surgical patients, research and implement innovative ways of working for patients. This could be group work or using technology.
To develop relationships and working practices alongside the surgical inpatient team to optimise input at the appropriate time for the presentations of these patients
