Role summary
This role is for a Practice Development Educator within the Critical Care team, focusing on leading education, training, and professional development for staff. The post holder will ensure staff gain specialist knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality care to critically ill patients. They will coordinate clinical skills development, support competency pathways, and help build a skilled critical care workforce. The role requires an experienced Critical Care Nurse with leadership and teaching skills, involving both educational delivery and clinical presence.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate education and professional development within Critical Care.
- Maintain a visible clinical presence, providing teaching, coaching, simulation, and practical skills development.
- Support staff in achieving critical care competencies and ongoing professional development.
- Lead the planning, delivery, and evaluation of educational programmes.
- Work clinically as part of the Intensive Care senior nursing team, providing clinical leadership.
- Represent the unit at Trust and regional Critical Care education meetings and events.
Essential criteria
- Able to travel across Trust sites to meet the requirements of the post

- Valid UK NMC PIN
- Degree in nursing or equivalent and evidence of continuous professional development.
- Relevant experience / qualification appropriate to clinical area.
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Certification / Qualification in teaching or equivalent
- Postgraduate qualification in Critical Care
- PGCE course or to be completed within the first 2 years
Desirable criteria
- Proven experience of delivering clinical skills training & support in a variety of settings
- Leadership experience within a clinical or educational field
- Project Management experience
- Masters in a relevant clinical area

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has
arisen to join our Critical Care team as a Practice Development Educator. This
role will provide dedicated leadership for education, training and professional
development, enabling staff to develop the specialist knowledge, skills and
competencies required to deliver high-quality care to critically ill patients.
Working closely with the Ward Manager and wider Critical Care leadership team,
the post holder will lead and coordinate education and clinical skills
development, support staff through critical care competency pathways and
ongoing professional development, and help shape a skilled, confident and
sustainable critical care workforce.
We are looking for an
experienced Critical Care Nurse with in-depth specialist knowledge of intensive
care, effective leadership skills and excellent communication, organisational
and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will hold a relevant teaching
qualification or be willing to work towards a PGCE or equivalent if not already
achieved. The role will require a flexible approach to working, including
different shift patterns where required, to meet the changing educational and
development needs of the Critical Care team.
