Role summary

This role involves assisting registered nurses and the multidisciplinary team to provide safe, holistic, person-centred care. The Senior Clinical Support Worker will contribute to patient well-being, communicate effectively, and work independently within their scope under supervision. Key duties include undertaking specific delegated tasks, providing personal care, and performing clinical observations and procedures. The position requires sensitivity, compassion, and adherence to Trust policies.

Key responsibilities

  • Communicate appropriately with patients and visitors, maintaining a professional and respectful manner.
  • Exchange factual information with patients, using reassurance, tact, and empathy, overcoming communication barriers.
  • Undertake nursing care procedures as appropriate, under direct or non-direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Provide personal care to patients, respecting their privacy and dignity at all times.
  • Perform clinical observations, record vital signs, and carry out procedures such as venepuncture, glucose monitoring, ECGs, and taking samples.
  • Observe patients for signs of agitation or distress and assist with clinical holding/restraint if necessary.

Essential criteria

  • Minimum 12 months care experience
  • Hold a Care Certificate or Level 3 Qualification in Heath Care. (If they hold a Level 3 and not a Care Certificate then the employee must complete the Care Certificate within 12 weeks of employment if they do not have this already)
  • GCSE at C or above/Level 2 equivalent in Functional Skills in Maths and English

Job summary

At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.

In relation to Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Worker roles, we are currently able to recruit successfully from the domestic labour market and have a sufficient pool of suitably qualified and appointable candidates. As a result, visa sponsorship is not available for this role at this time. This position is kept under regular review and may change in the future should labour market conditions or service requirements alter.

Important information for applicants: To ensure clarity of accountability, scope of practice and professional responsibilities, the Trust does not normally appoint individuals holding active NMC or HCPC registration into Band 2 Clinical/AHP Support Worker, Band 3 Senior Clinical/AHP Support Worker or Band 4 AHP Support Worker/Technician roles.
