Role summary
This role is for a Trainee Anatomical Pathology Technician to join the Mortuary Department at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust. The successful candidate will support the delivery of a high-quality, patient-focused mortuary service, ensuring all activities align with professional standards. Duties include assisting with post-mortem examinations, preparing deceased patients for viewing and release, and maintaining accurate records. The role requires working towards a Level 3 diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of deceased patients for post mortem examination and record measurements.
- Organise and equip the post mortem room for examinations.
- Adhere to Trust policy, Coroners Office, Department of Health regulations, and HTA regulations.
- Assist Consultant Histopathologists and Home Office pathologists in technical tasks during post mortem examinations.
- Arrange for specimens taken during post mortem examinations to be sent to the histology laboratory.
- Ensure accurate records of deceased patients received into and collected from the mortuaries are maintained.
Essential criteria
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Basic education to GCSE level
- A-C Level Maths and English or equivalent
- Willingness to work towards Level 3 diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology as a trainee
- Good communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good typing skills
Desirable criteria
- Relevant experience of working with bereaved families
- Funeral trade or experience of mortuary work
- Awareness of bereavement, cultural and religious needs
- GCSE or equivalent in Biology/anatomy
