Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Children and Young People (CYP) Psychological Trainings: Therapy Trainee specializing in Autism Spectrum Condition/Learning Disabilities (ASC/LD). This government-funded, one-year full-time position involves academic work and practical clinical interventions with clients. Trainees will be employees of the service and enrolled students with UCL/Anna Freud, working towards a UCL Postgraduate Diploma. The role focuses on supporting specialist pathways to bridge gaps in CYP mental health support.
Essential criteria
- Minimum second-class Bachelor's Degree or equivalent standard in a relevant subject (e.g. psychology, social work etc) or relevant equivalent professional experience
- Knowledge and understanding of the key features and symptoms associated with Autism and/or Learning Disabilities;
- Knowledge and understanding of the unique challenges for Autistic/LD children and young people and their families;
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of the MDT approach and collaborative working with other agencies to ensure the needs of Autistic/LD children and young people are understood and effectively met (i.e. education and social care agencies);
- Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to safeguarding children.
- Substantial experience working within a children and young people's providing interventions in a mental health setting (e.g. mental health worker);
- Clinical competence and experience working with Autistic and/or LD individuals
- Previous experience of working with safeguarding issues;
- Experience of working as part of the multi-disciplinary team with children and young people with Autism and/or LD and their families

Job summary
Our service has an exciting opportunity for a CYP Psychological Trainings: Therapy Trainee Autism Spectrum Condition/Learning Disabilities (ASC/LD) to join our team as part of the NHS England (NHSE) funded Children and Young People (CYP) Psychological Training Programmes.
This government-funded initiative promotes the growth and skill of the child mental health workforce to meet much needed demand. NHSE covers salary and training costs for a one-year full-time position, allowing services to employ trainees to support specialist pathways to bridge the gaps in CYP mental health support.
This is a unique opportunity to apply your learning from weekly teaching into practical clinical interventions working with clients in the service making a direct impact in the lives of children, young people and their families.
Course start date: 18th January 2027
Training Information
This full-time training will begin in January 2027 with around 2-3 days a week for academic work (teaching and personal study), and 2.5 days based at the service seeing clients (children, young people, and carers) related to training assignments.
