Role summary
This Senior Clinical Research Nurse role involves leading the Early Phase CRF Oncology Research Team within the Clinical Research Facility. The postholder will work collaboratively with Principal Investigators and clinical staff to set up studies, recruit patients, and manage ongoing clinical trial activities. Responsibilities include overseeing a portfolio of studies, managing staff appraisals, and ensuring ethical standards are maintained. The role requires flexibility, expert communication, and teaching skills to support the research process and patient care.
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable ability to demonstrate Trust Shared commitments
- Education & professional Qualifications
- Healthcare Professional qualification with current registration
- Recognised research module/ qualification or equivalent short courses and accredited updates
- Recognised teaching module/ qualification
- Completed science degree
- Completed/working towards Masters degree in a related field
- Significant post registration NHS nursing experience in a relevant clinical specialty
- Experience of working in Clinical Research.
- Experience of formal/ informal teaching of patients and staff
- Experience in delivering evidence based practice
- Experience of explaining complex concepts to patients in a clear and simplified manner
- Experience of acting as a patient advocate
- Experience working as a mentor/ clinical teaching
Desirable criteria
- Clinical experience in delivering early phase clinical research where unlicensed drugs are being given
- Experience of data management using paper and electronic case report forms (CRFs)

Job summary
The Senior Clinical Research Nurse is an expert nurse within the Trust for the conduct of clinical trials, academic research and studies. The postholder will work with the Early Phase CRF OncologyResearch Team in the Clinical Research Facility within a leadership and collaborative role in conjunction with Principal Investigators, Co Investigators and all clinical staff involved in the care and supervision of patients enrolled on trials. They will help with study set up, recruitment to trials, and all on-going clinical trial activity. There is the need for visibility, flexibility, expert communication and teaching skills to engender understanding and support for the research process. The Senior Research nurses are responsible for the oversight of a leadership and management of the Early Phase Oncology Research Team, oversight of a portfolio of studies, and lead in all communication to support recruitment, the reporting of clinical events, the collection of quality controlled data and effective communication with external sponsors.
The postholder will be expected to work flexibly. There may be the occasional need to work from alternative sites, out of hours or at weekends.They may also be expected to work flexibly across
