Role summary
This is a senior Speech and Language Therapist role focusing on the stroke pathway, working 4 days per week. The post holder will deliver communication and dysphagia services on the acute stroke ward and in community settings. Responsibilities include assessing, diagnosing, and managing complex patient caseloads, participating in training, and supervising junior staff. The role is part of a multidisciplinary team within a large teaching organisation.
Key responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose and manage own specialist caseloads of complex patients as an autonomous clinician.
- Participate in the development and delivery of training to others.
- Provide support to Speech and Language Therapy team members regarding clients presenting with complex communication and swallowing disorders.
- Supervise Speech and Language Therapy Support Practitioners and volunteers.
- Provide student placements.
- Contribute to the induction, mentoring and support of other less experienced staff.

Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Stroke Pathway
Are you passionate about working with adults recovering from stroke? Are you organised and looking to work within an acute setting and community multidisciplinary teams?
Due to an internal promotion we are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our integrated stroke pathway 4 days per week.
You will be part of the team delivering communication and dysphagia services on the acute stroke ward and in community settings. The SLT stroke rehab and community team comprises of SLT staff from band 8a to band 3 and is embedded as part of the wider MDT.
We have access to instrumental dysphagia assessment, a supportive admin team, embedded supervision and support structures for both professional development and wellbeing. As part of a large teaching organisation, CPD is very well supported and actively encouraged.
The stroke rehab and community team sit within a wider adult service with access to a wealth of experience and support in the areas of critical care, acute inpatients, head and neck cancer and voice, CNRT and community.
We also benefit from being part of a large SLT service which includes children's services allowing opportunities for cross-service development projects. We have very strong AHP leadership within the Trust.
