Role summary
This role is for a Band 6 Chemotherapy Nurse due to the expansion of the chemotherapy unit. The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary team to provide high-standard care to cancer patients, their relatives, and carers. Key responsibilities include administering cytotoxic drugs and other treatments safely, managing treatment clinics, and providing ongoing support and advice to patients. The role requires independent decision-making regarding patient care and may involve non-medical prescribing.
Key responsibilities
- Provide a high standard of care to patients attending the chemotherapy unit for treatment and supportive therapies.
- Administer cytotoxic drugs and other treatments in a safe, nurse-led manner.
- Undertake telephone triage for chemotherapy patients and their carers to manage treatment toxicities.
- Work as an independent non-medical prescriber within areas of work as required.
- Manage treatment clinics daily, ensuring effective use of resources and planning patient care appropriately.
- Ensure accurate doses have been prescribed and order relevant investigations as per protocol.

- Post graduation study/Haematology/Oncology course.
- SACT accredited course/Passport
- Evidence degree level study

Job summary
Due to recent expansion of the chemotherapy unit we have vacancies for Band 6 Chemotherapy Nurses.
The role will involve working with the multi-disciplinary teams, Oncology Consultants, and site specific Clinical Nurse Specialists to provide a seamless service for patients with cancer, their relatives and carers.
To provide a high standard of care to patients who attend the chemotherapy unit for treatment and other supportive therapies.
To ensure that cytotoxic drugs and other treatments are administered in a safe manner in a nurse-led setting. It is expected that the post holder will be responsible for their own decisions regarding care, with the support of senior nurses.
To ensure patients and their carers receive ongoing support throughout their treatment.
The post holder will be expected to work closely with the Clinical Nurse Specialists, the multi-disciplinary teams, Consultant Oncologists, and other appropriate professionals involved in the patient's care pathway.
