Role summary
This is an opportunity for a fully qualified Anatomical Pathology Technician to join the mortuary team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital as the Deputy Mortuary Manager. The role supports the Mortuary Service Manager in organizing a safe, secure, effective, and comprehensive mortuary, post-mortem, and Medical Examiner's service. Applicants should hold the RSPH/RIPHH Certificate & Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology and ideally have 5 years post-Diploma experience. The successful candidate will need a good understanding of medical terminology and participate in an on-call rota for out-of-hours APT duties.
Essential criteria
- Level 3 / Certificate in Anatomical Pathology Technology & Level 4 / Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology
- Substantial post qualification experience in line with above qualification timelines
- Membership of the Association of Anatomical Pathology Technologists

- Management/ leadership qualifications.
- Registered with the Academy for Healthcare Sciences or Science Council

- Experience & Knowledge
- To be able to demonstrate significant experience of Anatomical Pathology Technology, advanced autopsy technique, forensic pathology and CT PM's
- To be able to demonstrate in depth knowledge of the Human Tissue Act (HTA) Code of Practice pertaining to the Mortuary sector
- Demonstrable knowledge of COSHH
- Teaching, lecturing and mentoring experience
- Quality management, Document control & Audit experience
- Skills and Ability
- To be able to demonstrate fine motor skills for routine and advanced techniques in anatomical pathology (dissection; evisceration; high risk post-mortem; reconstruction)
- To be able to demonstrate the ability to write SOPs and training programmes
- Demonstrable competency in advanced technique, e.g. eye enucleation; spinal cord removal; exposure or removal of middle ears, pituitary glands, femurs
- Communications And Interpersonal Skills
- Able to communicate sensitive information to distressed families of the deceased, including those with English as a second language
- Values and Behaviours
- To be able to demonstrate the ability to promote positive working relationships with a wide range of professional groups
- The ability to participate in out of hours on call service
- To be able to demonstrate the ability to know when to escalate a situation regarding capacity

Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a fully qualified Anatomical Pathology Technician to join the mortuary team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital as the Deputy Mortuary Manager.
The post has been established to support the Mortuary Service Manager & work within the team of APT's & MEO's in the organisation of a safe, secure, effective & comprehensive mortuary, post mortem & Medical Examiner's office/service for the needs of the Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust & the wider community.
Applicants should hold the RSPH/RIPHH, Certificate & Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology (or level 3 & level 4 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology) & ideally have 5 years post Diploma/Level 4 mortuary experience, they should be registered with the Academy for Healthcare Sciences &/or possess Science Council Registration; they should be a member of the Association of Anatomical Pathology Technologists.
