Role summary
This role involves supporting individuals with mental health challenges by drawing on your own lived experience of recovery and accessing mental health services. You will manage a caseload, provide individual and group interventions, and work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team. The aim is to foster hope, promote self-determination, and assist service users in achieving their recovery goals, including practical support and community connection.
Key responsibilities
- Promote individual person-centred recovery by sharing your personal lived experience of mental health challenges and service access.
- Manage a caseload of identified patients, providing individual support and delivering group interventions.
- Work collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team to support service users.
- Provide a safe space for individuals to discuss their experiences and inspire hope through your recovery journey.
- Assist individuals in setting and achieving their unique recovery goals, promoting choice and self-determination.
- Offer practical assistance, encourage healthy lifestyles, build confidence, and help connect individuals with local community resources.
Essential criteria
- Own personal experience of accessing secondary mental health services.
- English language literacy and numeracy skills to the standard necessary to provide clear, understandable records on computerised system and fulfil job description.
- Health Education England Peer Support Work training or equivalent experience and willingness to complete this
- oPrevious experience of offering formal/informal peer support to people who are navigating recovery / experiencing mental illness from a range of different backgrounds and cultures.
- oExperience of working independently and as a part of a team (paid or voluntary).
- oExperience of using own history in a boundaried approach to support others in similar situations.
- oBasic knowledge of the principles of peer support.
- oKnowledge of recovery focused ways of working and ability to demonstrate these in practice.
- oUnderstanding the challenges which co-exist alongside common mental health illnesses
Desirable criteria
- Other evidence of training or development relevant to working within mental health settings (statutory or voluntary).
- oPrevious experience of being in a peer support role (paid or voluntary).
- oPrevious experience of being involved in involvement, engagement and co-production opportunities
- oA basic understanding of coproduction and community asset development.

Do you have lived experience of a recovery journey relating to mental ill health and accessing community mental health services? Would you like to support other people who are currently experiencing mental health issues? If so, we would like to hear from you as we have an exciting opportunity to join our Integrated Mental Health Team based in Codsall as a Peer Support Worker.
The Integrated Mental Health teams work as part of a 'neighbourhood' offering place-based provision of mental health services in partnership with other local organisations. Clinicians within the IMHT will offer interventions and treatments which are concordant with NICE guidelines, and allocation within the team will be based on the needs of the service user, matching clinician skills to service user needs.
