Role summary
This role provides high-quality administrative support to the adult assessment area (AAU), Emergency Department (ED), and same day emergency care (SDEC) areas. The post holder will work closely with medical and nursing staff, ensuring efficient and timely service delivery. Duties include providing a welcoming service to patients and managing administrative processes independently. The role requires flexibility, working shift patterns including nights and weekends, and dealing with unpredictable and potentially distressing situations.
Key responsibilities
- Provide high quality front line administrative support to the adult assessment area (AAU), Emergency Department (ED) and same day emergency care (SDEC) areas.
- Work closely with Nurses, Medical staff, Outpatients and Medical records staff.
- Ensure an efficient, high quality and timely service is provided as part of the Emergency Department team.
- Provide a welcoming and professional service to patients, relatives and all other services.
- Carry out a range of effective administration processes to support the delivery of high quality patient care.
- Work shift patterns, including nights and weekends, often independently.
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values
- English and Math's at GCSE level or equivalent
- Experience of working in a public/patient facing role
- Previous work in a team
- Experience of managing and prioritising own workload and working to deadlines
- Computer literate
- Fast, accurate typing skills
- Excellent communication skills both written and spoken
- Excellent customer care skills including ability to use judgment, tact and diplomacy
- Experience of using own initiative to help solve a problem or improve a service
- Flexible and adaptable to the needs of the service
- Ability to work alone and part of a team
- A mature and professional attitude / enthusiastic and positive
- Self -motivated
- Sympathetic attitude to patients and relatives who may be extremely distressed or anxious
- Ability to manage conflict and identify where escalation to senior staff is necessary
- Able to work 24hr shift pattern
- Ability to work flexibly to accommodate peaks and troughs of activity
- Ability to work without direct supervision
Desirable criteria
- Previous PAS/Cerner experience
- Ability to successfully manage and resolve difficult situations
- Effective interpersonal skills to liaise and negotiate with people/staff at all levels
- Experience of record keeping
- Knowledge of patient confidentiality and the Data Protection Act

Job summary

This role involves working closely with Nurses, Medical staff, Outpatients and Medical records staff. The post holder will work as part of the Emergency Department team ensuring an efficient, high quality and timely service is provided. This includes providing a welcoming and professional service to patients, relatives and all other services i.e. London Ambulance, Police, Hatzola and HASS.
Main duties of the job
These duties do not require direct supervision on a day to day basis and the post holder is responsible for effective forward planning, to ensure that the administrative needs of the service are met and must carry out a range of effective administration processes to support the delivery of high quality patient care. The staff would need to be flexible, have a range of knowledge of hospital work and external agencies. Staff are expected to work shift patterns, including nights and weekends where they would work independently.
