Role summary
Join our specialist Community Eating Disorders Service to support young people and their families transitioning from CAMHS to Adult Eating Disorder Services. This role involves expert assessment, therapeutic intervention, care coordination, and advocacy across multidisciplinary teams. We seek an experienced mental health professional with strong clinical skills and a passion for eating disorders to deliver high-quality, person-centred care. You will also contribute to shaping and developing innovative services across Rotherham, Doncaster, and North Lincolnshire.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the transition of young people with eating disorders from CAMHS to Adult Eating Disorder Services.
- Undertake specialist mental health, risk and eating disorder assessments and develop comprehensive care and transition plans.
- Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including individual, family and group work.
- Act as a key resource and advocate for young people, families and professionals, providing advice, guidance and emotional support.
- Work collaboratively with CAMHS, Adult Services and partner agencies to ensure effective communication and coordinated care.
- Manage a complex caseload autonomously whilst maintaining high standards of clinical governance, safeguarding and risk management.
Essential criteria
- A professional qualification in Mental Health at degree level or above
- Experience of working with Children, Young People & Families
- Experience or interest in working in the field of eating disorders
- Demonstrable post qualification experience, including experience of working with clients with mental health problems, working with children and families in particular
- Managing and prioritising a complex caseload
- Experience of Multi-Disciplinary working and organising MDT meetings
- Currently engaged in an advanced level of practice and able to demonstrate a high degree of professional autonomy
- The ability to provide patient-centred assessments, care planning, therapeutic intervention formulation and evaluation of the intervention with children, young people, parents and families.
- Ability to undertake Risk Assessments and identify appropriate plans in partnerships with the young person, families and other agencies to maintain the safety of young people
- Demonstrate a high degree of skill and knowledge within the field of eating disorders
- Demonstrate a high level of theoretical and practical knowledge in areas of child and adolescent mental health especially within the field of eating disorders and have a sound knowledge of the changes within the field of child & adolescent mental health in-line with national drivers
- Highly competent in making decisions regarding ongoing patient care based on clinical and risk factors
- Effective communication skills with all disciplines and agencies to optimise patient management
- Awareness of own competency level and how to seek appropriate help & support when required
- Understanding of confidentiality and risk management
- The ability to assess competency & consent in young people
- Demonstrate a good understanding of the Mental Health Act
- Ability to undertake Risk Assessments and identify appropriate plans in partnerships with the young person, families and other agencies to maintain their safety within a community setting
- Have a good understanding of child protection/safeguarding policies, recording and reporting any concerns to the appropriate agency including participate in case conferences as required.
- Excellent teaching, training and preceptorship skills
- Able to motivate and develop a team of staff
- Interviewing skills & appraisal skills
- High level of problem solving and planning skills
- Clinical audit, research and clinical governance principles
- Understanding of the Children's Act especially around Section 85/86
Desirable criteria
- Specialist Qualification in CBT, Systemic Family Practice or other therapeutic intervention
- A qualification, or have undertaken a program of formal training in Clinical Supervision
- Experience in leading & embedding new ways of working within complex settings
- Planning and delivering presentations and training to groups
- Experience in delivering comprehensive family work in a child and family setting
- The ability to lead and work independently
- The ability to organise and support professionals from different professional backgrounds
