Role summary

Join the Hand Day Case Unit at Royal Derby Hospital as a Registered Operating Department Practitioner or Registered Nurse. This role involves providing high-quality perioperative patient care within a multidisciplinary team, focusing on various hand surgery specialities. Training will be provided, and the successful candidate will contribute to a fast-moving, supportive environment. The position requires maintaining professional development and supporting/mentoring learners.

Key responsibilities

  • Work within a multidisciplinary team providing high quality, individualised, perioperative patient care.
  • Develop and extend skills across a variety of hand surgery specialities.
  • Maintain professional/essential development within the scope of individual appraisal and according to service needs.
  • Support/mentor learners as appropriate.
  • Undertake a dedicated Hands on call commitment for evenings and weekends.

Essential criteria

  • NMC/HCPC
  • Demonstrable theatre experience
  • Evidence of IT skills
  • Evidence of managing clinical resources
  • Evidence of effective MDT working
  • Recognises the importance of MDT working
  • To be able to demonstrate planning and/or adapting patient care
  • Ability to adapt to emergency situations

Desirable criteria

  • Demonstrable experience of Hand surgery
  • Demonstrable experience in recovery
  • Day Case Experience
  • Evidence of supporting elective and emergency theatre activity
  • Awareness of safeguarding for adults and paeds

Job summary

We are looking for a Registered Operating Department Practitioner or Registered Nurse to join our Hand Day Case Unit within the Kings Treatment Centre at the Royal Derby Hospital. You will ideally have Hand surgery experience, but this is not essential as training will be given.

The Hand Day Case suite is comprised of 3 operating theatres, a recovery area and an 8 bedded ward within a day case setting offering all aspects of hand surgery including orthopaedics, trauma, micro vascular and plastic surgery.

The successful candidates will become integral to the multidisciplinary team in a busy and supportive environment, and will be able to confidently assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.

We offer yearly mandatory training, in-house training and have a brilliant Clinical Education Team . Other training can also be arranged at the manager's discretion.
