Role summary
This is a full-time Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist position within the integrated neuro therapy team at Croydon University Hospital. The role involves providing high-quality speech and language therapy services to adult stroke patients on the acute stroke unit. You will assess and diagnose communication and swallowing disorders, make clinical decisions, and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Training and support will be provided by senior SLTs.
Key responsibilities
- To provide a high quality speech and language therapy service to adults in hospital, who have had a stroke.
- To manage and prioritise a defined caseload independently.
- To assess and diagnose communication and swallowing disorders and make appropriate clinical decisions, following assessment.
- To be able to reflect on all aspects of the adult's communication and to identify appropriate strategies to enhance communicative effectiveness.
- To communicate complex and sensitive condition related information from assessment to clients, carers, families and members of the multi-disciplinary team/other professionals.
- To accurately document and maintain high standard of clinical notes.
Essential criteria
- oRecognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification
- HCPC registered as SLT
- oRelevant experience at undergraduate /post graduate level working as an SLT with people who have had a stroke
- Knowledge of national guidance and policies relevant to stroke
- Knowledge of assessment tools and Speech therapy interventions relevant to stroke
- Flexible and adaptable to patients' needs and those of the service
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- States why they want to work with patients who have had a stroke
- Explains why they have applied for this specific post at Croydon health services

Job summary
Speech and Language Therapist Band 5 As a result of investment, we are looking for a full time, Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join the integrated neuro therapy team in Croydon.
The post is based on the acute stroke unit at Croydon University Hospital. Training and support will be given by the Band 7 and Band 6 SLT's on the unit. You will work collaboratively as a member of the well established multi disciplinary team. We also provide FEES and VF services.
This is a great opportunity for you to develop your knowledge and skills in a supportive and friendly environment.
