Role summary

This is a 30-hour Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist opportunity within the Harrow Adult Community Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) Service. The role involves providing domiciliary and outpatient assessment and therapy for adults with dysphagia and communication difficulties, including those with acquired and progressive neurological conditions. You will manage a varied specialist caseload, contribute to service development, and support junior colleagues. The team achieved Quality Development Unit (QDU) status in May 2024, reflecting a commitment to high-quality, patient-centred care.

Essential criteria

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree or equivalent
  • Registration with HCPC
  • Registration with relevant professional body

Desirable criteria

  • Registration with Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Evidence of further study e.g. postgraduate degree, short courses relating to community setting
  • Management of neurological and long term conditions
  • Assessment & treatment of complex clients with speech, language, communication needs and dysphagia
  • Working with carers & MDT
  • Writing reports and maintaining case notes
  • Delivering and evaluating training
  • Management of own caseload
  • Applying the principals of research methodology through clinical audit
  • Developing reflective clinical practice in self
  • Member of a relevant CEN
  • Experience of working in acute and community settings as well as in nursing homes
  • Experience of supervising junior members of staff
  • Skills & Knowledge
  • Knowledge of assessment tools relating the neurological/community client group with speech, language, communication and dysphagia needs.
  • Knowledge of a range of therapeutic interventions relating to the neurological/community client group with speech, language, communication and dysphagia needs
  • Ability to work in a less predictable environment and able to prioritise own workload with well-developed concentration skills.
  • Demonstration of good analytical and reflection skills
