Role summary

This role involves developing and managing contracts and relationships with various commissioners and Trust Directorates, ensuring compliance with performance frameworks and regulatory requirements. The post holder will manage processes to secure and manage significant income, advise on risk mitigation within contracts, and promote a culture of contract performance across the Trust. It requires close collaboration with internal and external partners to align contract KPIs with national strategies and local Trust needs.

Key responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day delivery against performance management frameworks and allocated contracts.
  • Work with the Finance Team on financial performance management and ensure accurate contract costings.
  • Review and update documentation, ensuring service specifications are clear and up to date.
  • Set up and maintain activity/compliance reporting, monitoring data quality and escalating issues.
  • Manage inquiries and queries from commissioners regarding contract performance.
  • Coordinate responses and documentation for consultations or contractual disputes.
  • Support the tendering/service development process to secure income through contracting.

Essential criteria

  • Degree level qualification ideally in a numerate discipline or knowledge gained by post-qualification experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience of performance management frameworks and/or clinical contract management and support within healthcare organisations, to include negotiation, schedule development, performance and contract meeting management, business planning, representing your organisation and dealing with conflict
  • Experience of financial and information management, reporting, interpretation and presentation of data
  • Project and programme management
  • Defining and Implementing change
  • Using existing templates and modifying templates to suit different contractual arrangements.
  • Ability to prioritise conflicting requirements to meet Trust objectives
  • Ability to deliver to strict deadlines
  • Awareness of NHS Performance requirements for Trusts, ICBs and within the wider NHS system
  • Knowledge of NHS Standard Contracts and contractual requirements
  • Awareness of contract management across a range of contract types including block, cost and volume, cost per case
  • Data Protection, Caldecott and Information Governance requirements
  • Awareness of legal concepts such as indemnities, limitation of liability, intellectual property, etc. These are key negotiation points in the non-NHS contracts within the Trust.

  • Postgraduate degree in a related field
