Role summary
This role involves delivering engaging, evidence-based Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) sessions to young people aged 11-18 in schools across Wakefield & Barnsley. You will provide targeted interventions, support young people in building confidence and resilience, and help them develop healthy relationships. The aim is to reduce STIs, prevent underage conceptions, raise awareness of substance misuse, improve emotional well-being, and tackle health inequalities. Working hours are generally within the school day.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, evidence-based RSE sessions in schools.
- Provide targeted interventions and small-group sessions.
- Support young people aged 11-18 to build confidence, resilience, recognise risk and develop healthy relationships.

- Collating and inputting baseline data collected from RSE lessons.
Essential criteria
- Good standard of education to GCSE (or equivalent) including English and Maths C or above. Relevant Level 3 Qualifications for example, A levels, level 3 NVQ, advanced apprenticeship or substantial relevant experience in youth work/healthcare. Plus, experience in sexual health and the intellectual ability to undertake the role. Achieved Level 2 child protection
- How to Identify and recognise risk indicators that could lead to sexual ill health and poor health outcomes. Relationships and Sexual health Education in schools and the wider community
- Experience of working with groups of young people in diverse settings including the hard to reach and those with specific learning needs.
- Post qualification experience in a for-mal or an informal education setting (school/college/youth work) Experience of working with a variety of professionals providing support and education.
Desirable criteria
- NVQ level 3 in Health or equivalent qualification in healthcare.
- Understands public health and education policy around health inequalities. Has knowledge of social and contextual factors that influence young people's sexual health and well-being. Has knowledge and understanding of the law, good practice and safeguarding issues relating to working with young people in schools and in the community. Understands the principles of equality and diversity and trauma informed practice
- Ability to use ICT including online platforms such as Microsoft 365/Teams and zoom. Email, the Internet, word processing, PowerPoint, spreadsheets, databases, and smart boards
- Diverse youth work: different client groups different settings different styles Working within a PSHE curriculum Previous health promotion experience working with young people.
