Role summary
The Maternity Support Worker is a key member of the multidisciplinary team, supporting midwives in providing insightful women/birthing people services. Key responsibilities
- Assist the registered midwife/professional in the delivery of midwifery care.
- Communicate with women/birthing people, respecting their level of understanding.
- Record all care/advice given on the Trust's electronic patient recording system and paper documentation.
- Support infant feeding and encourage breastfeeding in line with Trust policy and national initiatives.
- Achieve necessary skills through training to fulfil the role of circulating MSW in the Maternity Theatre.
- Carry out phlebotomy, neonatal screening, blood glucose monitoring, and basic wound care after training.
Essential criteria
- Functional Skills, level 2 n English and Maths
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Care/working towards Apprenticeship
- Previous experience in health care setting essential
- CARES certificate

The maternity support worker is a key member of our multidisciplinary team. With their specialist knowledge they will support midwives in providing an insightful women/birthing people service based on current evidence and research.
The post holder will provide teaching of parenting skills using current knowledge gained from experience and training, and will ensure that women/birthing people, their babies, and families are cared for in a safe environment that ensures privacy and dignity is always maintained.
The post holder will actively seek the views of women/birthing people and their families on the understanding of their care needs and develop a relationship to ensure their experience is positive.
This is a rotational post and the post holder will be expected to rotate into all areas of the maternity department on a flexible working pattern including shift work.
