Role summary
This role involves working as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant on the Stroke Unit at Lincoln County Hospital. You will deliver therapy interventions under the guidance of qualified therapists, focusing on communication and swallowing rehabilitation for stroke patients. The position is part-time, 22.5 hours per week, and includes weekend working on a rota basis. You will be an active member of the team, contributing to service development and receiving regular supervision.
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 3 or ability to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills, or experience
- 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at Grade C or above, or equivalent evidence of numeracy and literacy skills
- To have, or demonstrate a willingness to work towards competencies in rehabilitation and care
Desirable criteria
- Other relevant care qualifications e.g., Care Certificate
- Skills/Competencies
- Effective communication skills, both verbal written and electronic
- Basic IT skills
- Organisation skills to manage own day to day work
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- European Computer Driving Licence
- Moving and Handling Skills
- Level 2 Competence of RCSLT Eating, Drinking and Swallowing Competency Framework
- Understanding of the role of Speech and Language Therapy in an acute stroke setting
- Basic understanding of adult acquired communication impairments
- Basic understanding of the effects of stroke
- Understanding of IDDSI levels
- Experience of working in a health and/or care setting
- Experience of working with people with communication difficulties
- Experience of working as an assistant/support worker
- Experience of rehabilitation following stroke
- Experience of delivering Speech and Language Therapy interventions
- Special attributes/specific requirements
- Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service including weekend working
- Ability to work in stressful situations
- Self-motivated and enthusiasm for the role with the ability to work on own initiative whilst recognising own limitations

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our welcoming and friendly team on the Stroke Unit at Lincoln County Hospital.
This is a part time post (22.5 hours) which includes weekend working on a rota basis.
Main duties of the job
This post is based on the Stroke Unit in Lincoln therefore you will be an active member of the Speech and Language Therapy team in a patient facing role. You will be trained to deliver therapy interventions under the guidance of the Speech and Language Therapists.
You will be a vital player in the team ensuring that patients receive intensive speech and language therapy input in line with national guidelines. This will include delivering both communication and swallowing rehabilitation therapy to patients recovering post stroke. You will be encouraged to participate in service development and will receive regular supervision from the team to further your development.
