Role summary

This role is part of the Network Team, assisting in delivering core technology services and ensuring operational continuity and future development of Trust systems. It involves proactively managing the installation, maintenance, development, and support of the Trust's network infrastructure, including data, voice, and video conferencing technologies. The post holder will ensure all systems operate securely and with a focus on customer-based delivery, adhering to Trust, industry, and national standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Network Manager to identify key areas for network development and assess new technologies.
  • Implement and manage network security, including firewalls and access controls, to mitigate vulnerabilities.
  • Assist in planning and executing disaster recovery procedures to ensure business continuity.
  • Monitor network performance in real-time and inform helpdesk/technical teams of issues and changes.
  • Manage network administration functions, including configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of routers, switches, and other critical infrastructure.
  • Assist in maintaining the inventory of all Trust's network hardware and software assets, including commissioning structured cabling and configuring new hardware.

Essential criteria

  • Education to degree/HND/MCSE/CISCO (CCNA) or equivalent in a relevant discipline and significant experience in Network Administration and Management
  • CISCO Certified Professional in at least one specialism or equivalent experience
  • Significant experience in managing large scale, complex network infrastructures in a healthcare or similarly regulated environment
  • Experience in configuring and managing advanced network security systems, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems
  • Excellent knowledge of routing, switching and wireless
  • Carry out diagnostic checks on network hardware and software identifying faults and performing recovery procedures in the event of component failure

Desirable criteria

  • ITIL V3 Foundation
  • A working knowledge of BS7799 and the Data Protection Act
  • IT experience gained in Acute healthcare / NHS setting
