Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a part-time specialist Speech and Language Therapist to work within the Acute General Medicine inpatient workstream at the John Radcliffe Hospital. The role involves developing and refining skills across a complex medical caseload, including elderly care, respiratory, cardiac surgery, emergency medicine, trauma, and surgery. You will work as an integral member of a friendly, supportive, and multi-disciplinary team, contributing to FEES and VFS services, and MDT training. The ideal candidate is an experienced, driven, and creative team player who thrives in a busy environment.
Essential criteria
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
- Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC)
- Formal post-graduate dysphagia training
Desirable criteria
- Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
- Experience and Knowledge
- Evidence of high level of specialist knowledge / skills as a result of experience and CPD
- Experience of working within acute general medicine speciality
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
- Knowledge / application of the principles of Clinical Governance
- Experience of supervision of students / junior staff
- Experience of service review, quality improvement and audit
- RCSLT Dysphagia Competencies (Level B/C)
- Excellent interpersonal skills including active listening skills
- Negotiation, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent reflective practice and analytical skills, ability to identify own strengths and learning needs, and proactivity in seeking support and personal development when required
- Independent workload/caseload prioritisation and management skills, particularly in an environment where workload is unpredictable and flexibility is required
- Ability to work successfully in a team, and assume leadership responsibilities when required
- RCSLT Videofluoroscopy competencies (Level 2+)
- RCSLT Tracheostomy competencies (Level 1+)
- RCSLT FEES competencies (Level 1+)

We are excited to recruit a part time (0.6 WTE, 22.5 hours per week), specialist Speech and Language Therapist to work within the Acute General Medicine inpatient workstream at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Speech and Language Therapist to develop and refine their skills across a complex medical caseload, whilst working alongside a friendly and supportive team. This workstream currently covers a wide range of clinical specialisms, including Elderly care, Respiratory, Cardiac Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Trauma and Surgery. This workstream currently contributes to the Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow (FEES) inpatient service, the countywide Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study (VFS) service, and also contributes to a number MDT training and education programmes.
We are looking forward to welcoming an experienced, driven and creative team player who thrives in a busy, multi-disciplinary team environment. You will work alongside other Speech and Language Therapists, in particular SLTs who work in the Acute Stroke, Neurosciences and Critical Care workstreams.
