Role summary

As a Transport Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and timely collection and delivery of blood and related products between NHSBT sites and customers. This role involves using on-board technology for tracking, performing daily vehicle checks, and maintaining vehicle cleanliness and security. Essential criteria

  • Possession of a valid driving licence allowing you to drive in the UK with 6 points or less on your licence which will be subject to DVLA check is essential
  • C1 driving licence would be desirable. B licence is essential for this role
  • Able to meet NHSBT minimum standards of driving skills which will be assessed at interview stage
  • Previous vocational driving experience or evidence of driving proficiency
  • Able to work with information technology such as digital hand held devices, Microsoft Office or other IT packages
  • A good geographical knowledge of the local area and road network
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance checks

As a Transport Driver you will keep blood and related products moving safely and on time, 24/7. You will collect and deliver essential items between our sites and customers, using on-board technology to track and record every movement. You will take pride in providing a professional service, completing daily vehicle checks, and keeping vehicles and equipment secure and clean. With full training, you may also support urgent blue light deliveries. This is a hands-on role where your judgement, reliability and customer care help protect patients and support clinical teams every day.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will drive our vehicles to collect, transport and deliver blood and related products and equipment. You will keep your vehicle secure and roadworthy, complete daily checks, and help us deliver a reliable service that patients and hospitals can depend on.

  • Drive a range of vehicles up to and including 7.5 tonne (except in South London (Tooting), Basildon, Lancaster and Southampton, where you will drive light goods vehicles up to 3.5 tonne).
