Role summary

Key responsibilities
- Provide and support the highest standards of evidence-based clinical practice within the Crisis Assessment Unit / police pathway Service.
- Work on both the Crisis Assessment Unit, Street Triage, and in the 136 Suite.
- Offer expedient and sound information to professionals referring into the service.
- Utilise triage and assessment skills to communicate and provide interventions to individuals who might otherwise be transferred to Emergency Department or detained under Section 136.
- Support individuals who may be distressed, experiencing acute symptoms of mental illness, or intoxicated within the health-based place of safety.
- Be available for a 7-day-a-week rota working over 24 hours (long days, twilights and nights).
Essential criteria
- Relevant Core Professional Qualification -RN (Mental Health), RNLD. Evidence of post qualification development or equivalent working experience/knowledge.
- Assessment and problem solving skills particularly in the area of crisis assessment and treatment.
- A kind and caring approach when negotiating outcomes for service users, and the ability to adjust communication style with different stakeholders.
- Able to prioritize work whilst working under pressure including delegation of work to team members.
- Strong ability to assess people at risk.
- Demonstrate ability to act on own initiative where appropriate.
- Post Registration experience of working with adults of all ages with acute mental health problems.
- Experience of working with people at risk.
- Can demonstrate experience of formulating crisis plans/care plans for people in an acute mental health crisis.
- Knowledge and understanding of the MHA and the MCA
- An understanding of the professional role and service.
- An awareness of the limitations of the role and when to escalate to senior staff.

Job summary

Crisis Assessment Unit is a 6 bed unit that provides short term inpatient assessments. The Police Pathway involves providing support to patients through the pathway from initial referral, community assessment and through the s136 detention process where applicable. You will be working on Both the Crisis Assessment Until, Street Triage and in the 136 Suite.
At present, the Crisis Assessment Unit is functioning as a female acute ward and candidates are encouraged to contact the CTMs of the service to discuss at their earliest convenience.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic mental health practitioner.
