Role summary
The Acute Paediatric Liaison Health Visitor is a Registered Nurse with Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visitor) qualification working within the acute hospital setting at Croydon University Hospital. This role provides a safeguarding and public health interface between Emergency Department, paediatric and maternity services, and community 0-19 Public Health Nursing services. The post holder will focus on early identification of vulnerability, safeguarding risk assessment, timely information sharing and early intervention for children and young people aged 0-19 years, including unborn babies. They will also be a visible expert safeguarding resource across the Emergency Department and wider acute services, supporting staff through advice, training, and professional guidance.
Key responsibilities
- Review and assess Emergency Department attendances for children and young people aged 0-19 years, identifying safeguarding concerns, vulnerabilities, and unmet health needs.
- Review, process and document emergency department attendances and safeguarding referrals, ensuring timely and appropriate information sharing.
- Function as a visible safeguarding presence within the emergency Department, providing advice, support, and expert guidance to acute clinical staff.
- Promote a Think Family, trauma-informed and non-stigmatising approach when working with children, young people, parents, and carers.
- Ensure accurate, timely and confidential record-keeping using Croydon Health Services systems.
- Deliver health promotion advice to children, young people and parents including MECC.
