Role summary
This role is for a clinically based expert practitioner in Dermatology, responsible for strengthening nursing contributions to patients with dermatological conditions. The post holder will assess and treat patients, manage complex cases, run nurse-led clinics, and undertake advanced nursing practices including independent prescribing. They will also develop and evaluate specialist services in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team, focusing on improving health outcomes and contributing to innovative practice and research.
Key responsibilities
- Assess and treat patients with Dermatological conditions, utilizing highly specialised technical and practical skills for optimum patient management.
- Independently prescribe and manage medications, including systemic therapies and biologics, ensuring patient safety through blood test reviews and monitoring.
- Educate patients on medication safety, provide helpline support for concerns, and conduct regular follow-up monitoring for adverse reactions.
- Lead and support the clinical team in developing care systems, protocols, and guidelines for systemic and biologic treatment of skin diseases like psoriasis and eczema.
- Teach, mentor, and assess students and staff, promoting a progressive learning culture and contributing to the ongoing development of innovative practice and standards of care.
- Participate in clinical governance processes, manage patient issues, promote infection control, and lead departmental R&D initiatives and clinical audits.

The post holder will be a clinically based expert practitioner who will take a key role in strengthening the nursing contribution to patients and service users within the speciality across the organisation.
The post holder will assess and treat patients with Dermatological conditions and undertake highly specialised technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management including; complex patient monitoring; nurse led clinics and defined expanded clinical roles.
In partnership with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) the post holder will develop, implement and evaluate a seamless specialist service. The role is vital in delivering the highest standards of clinical care and supporting efficiency to drive improvements in health outcomes. The post holder needs to have completed the nurse prescribing course.
Using advanced nursing practice; takes personal responsibility for managing a caseload of patients referred for specialist intervention, care and support.
