Role summary

This role is for a Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner to work in a dual recovery/anaesthetic role within the elective theatre department at North Tyneside General Hospital. It also involves supporting the emergency stream at Northumbria Hospital on weekends and out-of-hours night shifts/on-calls. Previous experience is an advantage, but comprehensive training is provided for new or less experienced staff. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality, safe patient care in a perioperative environment.

Key responsibilities

  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care under the direction of the senior nurse/SODP.
  • To assist in the provision of nursing care and maintain high clinical standards.
  • To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Develop over time and contribute to the management of a clinical area and take charge in the absence of Senior Nurse/ODP.
  • To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust.

Essential criteria

  • 1st Level live NMC Registered General Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner qualification
  • Evidence of ongoing practice development
  • Evidence of qualification to undertake the supervision, teaching and assessing of students (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period unless post is bank only).

Desirable criteria

  • Recognised post graduate theatre/anaesthetic qualification
  • Recognised teaching qualification
  • Post Registration qualification in specialty
  • Diploma/degree in nursing/or health related topic
  • Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
  • Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods

Job summary

We are looking for Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner to be dual role for recovery/anaesthetic team within the elective theatre department at North Tyneside General Hospital. This post will also support our emergency stream at the Northumbria Hospital on a weekend and out of hours rota for night shifts and on calls.

Previous recovery & anaesthetic experience would be an advantage; however, a comprehensive training package is in place for newly qualified staff, or those new to the perioperative environment.

The successful candidate should be motivated and enthusiastic and committed to delivering safe, high-quality care.

This role includes exposure prone procedures (EPP).
