Role summary
This role is for a motivated and compassionate Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse (PDSN) to join a progressive and supportive bank team. The PDSN will work within the Paediatric Diabetes MDT, collaborating with Shropshire and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust to deliver high-quality care for children and young people with diabetes. The team offers multi-disciplinary clinics across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Powys. This position is bank only and supports flexible working arrangements.
Key responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate evidence-based nursing care for children and young people.
- Provide effective nursing expertise, specialist advice, and support to the nursing team and wider MDT.
- Work closely with the MDT to provide education and training to patients and their families.
- Promote a 'can-do' attitude to develop dynamic and responsive multidisciplinary/multi-agency community services.
- Manage a complex specialised caseload, providing clinical education, advice, information, and support to CYP and their carers/families.
Essential criteria
- Registered Children's Nurse/RN (Child)
- Highly developed specialist knowledge achieved through first level degree or equivalent portfolio of evidence
- Evidence of short courses at master's level or equivalent experience
- Recognised Qualification in field of practice
- Teaching Certificate or equivalent experience
- Independent Nurse Prescriber
- Counselling qualification
- Extensive post registration experience in field of practice
- Experience of provision of training/education to range of staff and service users
- Assessing and prescribing care and treatment plans
- Participation in service development and the implementation of change
- Advanced communication, negotiation, decision making and organisational skills
- Ability to communicate complex and distressing information to patients and their carers in a sensitive and supportive way at a level they can understand
- Ability to manage complex caseload of high-risk patients
- Ability to take initiative, work autonomously, make decisions and prioritise workload
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
- Knowledge of national clinical guidelines & ability to interpret their impact on strategic service developments, patient outcomes and clinical practice
- Advanced training and utilisation skills in therapeutic/ diagnosis procedures and equipment relevant to field of practice
