Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a part-time, enthusiastic Band 3 Phlebotomist to join an 'Outstanding' Trust. Based at West Berkshire Community Hospital, you will work within a busy, dynamic team, expanding opening hours to include weekdays and alternative Saturday mornings. The role requires recent phlebotomy experience (minimum 6 months) and the ability to complete local competency assessments. Two positions are available, one for 22.5 hours per week and another for 33.5 hours per week on a two-weekly rotating pattern.
Key responsibilities
- Ensuring patient comfort and agreement for blood sample collection.
- Ensuring safe collection of blood samples according to agreed procedures.
- Ensuring appropriate and accurate labelling and dispatch of specimens to laboratories.
- Answering the telephone and dealing with calls politely and efficiently.
Essential criteria
- GCSE English or equivalent
- GCSE Maths or equivalent
- Ability to travel to multiple sites
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Sound understanding of health and safety requirements.
- Awareness of data protection and confidentiality issues
- Must be physically able to assist less able & wheelchair bound patients.
- Must comply with Trust requirements for health.
- Willingness to be flexible and vary working patterns in accordance with the needs of the service
- Ability to drive and have access to a car for work purposes
Desirable criteria
- European Computer Driving Licence
- Fully trained in phlebotomy procedures.
- Able to perform phlebotomy procedures without direct supervision.
- Previous Laboratory work experience
- Work experience in a healthcare environment

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time, enthusiastic band 3 Phlebotomist to join our CQC rated 'Outstanding' Trust.
Based at West Berkshire Community Hospital, you will be working with a team of Phlebotomists. The department is expanding its opening hours and will be open between Monday to Friday between 08:00-18:00 hrs and on alternative Saturday mornings between 08:00-13:00 hrs. We are a busy, dynamic department and would like to hear from suitable qualified people.
You will have had recent phlebotomy experience (minimum 6 months) and are expected to complete our local competency assessments.
This post is for 2 positions:
22.5 hours per week, working various different shift times.
and
33.5 hours per on a 2 weekly working pattern,
Week one:
Monday- 0800-1800, Wednesday- 0800-1800, Friday- 0800-1800 and Saturday - 0800-1300.
Week two:
Monday- 0800-1800, Tuesday- 0800- 1300, Wednesday- 0800-1800 and Friday - 0800-1800
