Role summary
This role is for a dynamic and resilient Clinical Pathway Administrator within the Ophthalmology department at Royal Free Hospital. The post holder will oversee patient pathways for Ophthalmology clinics, providing efficient administrative and customer care services to patients, relatives, and the multidisciplinary team. It is a busy, fast-paced, fixed-term position covering secondment leave, requiring attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
Key responsibilities
- Work as part of the ophthalmology team.
- Build relationships with key staff to provide an efficient, reliable service for patients.
- Oversee the patient pathway for Ophthalmology clinics.
- Deliver a high standard of administrative customer care to various client groups.
- Provide cover across six sites as required.
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE level, NVQ level 4 or equivalent
- Good standard of written and spoken English
- Effective numerical skills
- Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust shared commitments
- Substantial experience of dealing with the public and/ or patients in healthcare
- Previous administrative and organisational experience
- Experience of dealing with non-routine and complex problems.
- Substantial experience in a customer service environment
- Experience of handling difficult or pressurised situations
- Experience of managing and prioritising own workload and working to deadlines.
- Understanding of the requirements regarding patient confidentiality
- Good working knowledge of IT applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Excellent customer care practice, being polite, sympathetic, patient and diplomatic
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to deal with and manage conflict
- Ability to manage workload
- An ability to support service development and improvement
- Sympathetic attitude to patients and relatives, who may be extremely distressed or anxious. Calm and positive disposition.

Desirable criteria
- AMSPAR medical terminology knowledge
- Experience working within Ophthalmology, knowledge of Ophthalmology pathways
- In depth knowledge of Cerner or similar administration system
- Understanding of best practice in customer service environments
- Awareness of National and Trust pathway targets (such as 18 week RTT target)
- Ability to learn and assimilate information quickly
- Ability to use databases

Job summary
The post holder will be expected to work as part of the ophthalmologyteam and will build relationships with key staff providing an efficient, reliable service for patients. The post holder must be flexible in their approach and be able to work with administrators and medical staff at all of our six sites, providing cover as required.
The administrator is responsible for overseeing the patient pathway for our Ophthalmology clinics and for delivering a high standard of administrativecustomer care to a wide range of client groups, including the multidisciplinary team, patients, relatives and their carers.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a dynamic and resilient Clinical Pathway Administrator to support the delivery of the Ophthalmology situated at the Royal Free Hospital. This post is a fixed term post covering secondment leave.
This is a busy and a fast paced role within the Ophthalmology department The incoming post holder will need to have good attention to detail, be patient focus and demonstrate the ability to work independently.
The successful candidate will also be able demonstrate the Trust values, the responsibilities of the job description and person specification.
