Role summary

This role involves acting as a dedicated Cancer Navigator, providing a single point of contact for urology oncology patients and their families. You will offer practical support, guidance, and timely information, coordinating appointments and liaising with the specialist nursing team. The position supports the implementation of a nurse-led prostate cancer pathway and aims to improve the overall patient journey and experience.

Key responsibilities

  • Providing a dedicated point of contact for patients and their families
  • Offering practical advice, support, and signposting throughout the patient journey
  • Coordinating appointments in a timely and efficient manner
  • Liaising closely with the Prostate Cancer Specialist Nursing Team and wider multidisciplinary team
  • Improving the patient journey and overall experience of care
  • Supporting timely access to services.

Essential criteria

  • Educated to diploma level or equivalent experience.
  • Vast administrative and organisational experience of dealing with non-routine and complex problems.
  • Ability to learn and assimilate information quickly to meet deadlines by prioritising and multi-tasking.
  • To have awareness of limitations and boundaries.
  • Ability to collect data and input electronically.
  • Ability to have calm and reassuring interpersonal skills when speaking with patients and carers.
  • Ability to deliver information programme to individuals and large groups as required.

The postholder will provide consistent communication and support to patients from the point of referral, through diagnosis or exclusion of cancer, and throughout their treatment journey. By acting as a dedicated point of contact, the Cancer Navigator will help ensure that patients have access to timely information, practical support, and guidance, keeping them at the heart of all decisions
