Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Nurse or Midwife to join the Pregnancy Advisory Service (PAS) at the Central Health Clinic and WISH clinic. The role involves patient consultations, ultrasound scanning, informal counselling, sexual health screening, contraception advice, and consenting for abortions. You will provide a full range of nursing skills within the service, including administering medication and participating in nurse-led clinics. The position is fixed-term for 12 months and is part-time.
Essential criteria
- Interest in and commitment to providing safe abortion care
- Relevant post-registration nursing or Midwifery experience
- Up to date knowledge and experience of working in a sexual health/contraception/abortion/Gynaecological service
- Experience of instruction and assessing in clinical practice i.e. supporting students and new staff members
- Experience of working with all age groups, genders and sexualities
- Experience of safeguarding patients

- Experience of leading or managing a team
- Ultra sound scanning experience in first and second stage trimester
- Education and Qualifications
- Registered General Nurse / 1st Level Registration
- Current NMC Registration
- Qualification in Teaching, Assessing and Mentoring
- Recognised Contraception and Sexual Health Course (Diploma of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive healthcare)
- FSRH Letter of Competence in Insertion and removal of Subdermal Implants SDI
- Skills and Abilities
- Highly effective verbal and written communication and negotiation skills - to staff, patients and relatives, including in situations of conflict or distress
- Strong organisational skills - prioritising complex situations
- Skills in caseload management and record keeping
- Demonstrates the ability to lead and influence change

Job summary

Main duties of the job
- Provide a full range of nursing skills within the Pregnancy Advisory Service. This may include evenings.
- Provide a confidential and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services including use of Fraser Guidelines.
- Administer and / or issue prescribed medication as appropriate following NMC professional guidelines, working from PGDs or Non-Medical Prescribing as appropriate.
- Use professional judgement to seek advice or refer to medical colleagues.
- Be aware of and adhere to NMC, Trust and Directorate policies and procedures.
