Role summary

This part-time Clinical Support Worker role is within the Specialist Weight Management Service (SWMS), a multi-disciplinary Tier 3 service. The successful applicant will support patients at community venues, working alongside SWMS Clinicians. The role requires good communication, IT skills, and a willingness to learn about new lifestyle interventions for weight loss. Previous NHS experience is essential, and experience with obesity or weight management is advantageous.

Essential criteria

  • Previous experience of working with people.
  • Relevant NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Willing to undertake the necessary training to support lifestyle behaviour change of clients on caseload.
  • Ability to interact effectively with people from a range of backgrounds.
  • Basic IT skills including previous experience of having used Microsoft Office package software.
  • Ability to be respectful and value people regardless of background
  • Able to travel independently to base and around localities of Teesside, Redcar & Cleveland, North Yorkshire, & County Durham.
  • Ability to deal with unpredictable and varying work load and work patterns.
  • Ability to show compassion towards patients who may report behaviours that carry social stigma or may be judged by the prevailing view of society, and to provide such patients with care equal to that of others in their care.

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Clinical Support Worker to join the Specialist Weight Management Service (SWMS) and increase their skills and experience in this specialty. The SWMS is a Tier 3 weight management multi-disciplinary (MDT) service, consisting of Consultant Physicians, GP with Specialist Interest in Weight Management (GPwSI), Psychology Professionals, Dietitians, Physiotherapists, Specialist Nurses, Non-Medical Prescribers, Senior Support Worker, Support Workers and Administrators. Since its beginning, approximately 18 years ago, the SWMS has grown quickly and now provides a Tier 3 service to the areas of County Durham, South Tyneside, Tees Valley, Redcar & Cleveland, and areas of North Yorkshire. The SWMS is at the cutting edge of weight management in the NHS. This is Tier 3 service, at its best.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be responsible for working alongside the SWMS Clinicians and supporting patients at specific community venues; they will also be required to provide cover at other venues, including occasional evening cover.
