Role summary
This is an exciting secondment opportunity for an experienced Band 6 ENT nurse to join a dynamic multidisciplinary team, primarily at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals. The role involves independently managing a clinical caseload, leading nurse-led clinics, and supporting patients throughout their treatment journey. You will conduct clinical assessments, plan care, initiate treatment, and provide expert advice to patients and families. The position also includes contributing to service development through audits and guideline development, with support from senior CNS staff.
Key responsibilities
- Support the management of ENT patients, conducting clinical assessments, planning care, and initiating treatment plans.
- Run autonomous nurse-led clinics for minor procedures, tracheostomy tube changes, wound care, and allergy testing.
- Collaborate closely with ENT Consultants, Speech & Language Therapists, and other MDT members to coordinate patient journeys.
- Act as a key resource for patients and families, providing expert advice, support, and detailed information on conditions and treatment.
- Support clinical audits, drive evidence-based practice, and contribute to the development of departmental guidelines and policies.
- Support the Clinical Nurse Specialist in delivering a high-quality holistic service for patients requiring specialist ENT care.
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values
- First level registration
- Mentorship/ preceptorship or equivalent teaching qualification
- 3 years post registration experience
- Experience of MDT working
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with attention to detail
- An understanding of quality, clinical risk, clinical governance, national benchmarks and other professional issues
- Good attendance record
- Computer Literacy
- Flexible approach to work
- Able to work under pressure to meet deadlines
Desirable criteria
- Working towards a degree or evidence of continuing education
- Experience of working in inpatient and outpatient setting
- Experience of implementing change in a clinical setting
- Knowledge of research & audit methodology
