Role summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic Older People’s Service within the North Sector. You will be primarily based within the Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre (ARC) and rehabilitation ward at Stobhill Ambulatory Care Hospital, providing assessment, treatment planning, rehabilitation and complex discharge planning for older adults, predominantly aged 75 years and over. Patients frequently present with complex conditions including frailty, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, falls and multiple long-term conditions. You will also contribute to the ongoing development of frailty services and support service improvement initiatives, clinical governance and the continuous development of Occupational Therapy services.
Key responsibilities
- Assess, plan and deliver specialist Occupational Therapy interventions for older adults with complex physical, cognitive and rehabilitation needs.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support rehabilitation, facilitate complex discharge planning and promote independence for older people.
- Contribute to the evaluation and ongoing development of the Occupational Therapy service, supporting clinical governance, service improvement, clinical effectiveness initiatives and the implementation of national policies and healthcare priorities.
- Lead and contribute to departmental and multidisciplinary projects aimed at continuously improving patient care and outcomes.
Essential criteria
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Holds, or is willing to work towards, a recognised Practice Education Qualification.
- Up-to-date mandatory and statutory training, including Fire Safety and Moving & Handling.
- Demonstrable specialist knowledge and skills in Occupational Therapy within Older People’s Services, gained through relevant postgraduate training, specialist courses and clinical experience.
- Significant experience of working within Older People’s Services and as part of multidisciplinary and/or multi-agency teams.
- Specialist interest in the assessment, rehabilitation and discharge planning of older adults.
- Excellent communication, team-working and organisational skills, with the ability to manage a complex and varied caseload.
